Our children's amber jewelry is decorative only. It is not a teething aid. Never let a child sleep in it, chew it or wear it unsupervised.
Why not use amber for teething?
- In December 2018 the US FDA warned against all teething jewelry, including amber.
- Risks: choking on a loose bead, strangulation, mouth injury and infection.
- Reported cases include an 18-month-old strangled by an amber necklace during a nap.
- The FDA says there is no scientific evidence that teething jewelry works.
Safe-use rules
- Wear only while an adult is watching.
- Take it off for naps, bedtime, car seats and play alone.
- Never let a child mouth or chew the beads.
- Check the cord and clasp before each wear; stop using it if anything is loose.
How our children's jewelry is made
- Every bead is knotted individually, so a broken cord doesn't release them all.
- Most pieces close with a plastic screw clasp. It does not break away under pull, so a child must never wear it unsupervised or while sleeping.
- Whether a piece suits your child is your decision as a parent. Never use it for babies who put things in their mouth.
